Academics
Message from the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
Welcome to Troy University!
As the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost, I am responsible for all of the academic activities of our University as these stretch across four campuses in Alabama and over 60 teaching sites throughout the United States and quite literally around the world. Troy University has a long and proud tradition of providing excellent academic instruction for our students, dating back to our founding in 1887 as a college devoted to training teachers. Since those early days as the Troy Normal School, our University has expanded to include an amazing array of undergraduate and graduate degree offerings that reach into all disciplines of study. Today, Troy University is preparing tomorrow’s leaders by offering outstanding academic programs, taught by highly qualified faculty, and delivered through traditional in-class formats and 21st century online methods.
Our academic programs at Troy University are located in one of five academic colleges, led by Deans who are responsible for the faculty, staff, students, and degree offerings within those colleges. The Division of Academic Affairs is home to our First Year Studies Program and Center for Student Success as well as our Graduate School and University Libraries. The University’s Records Office which houses all official student transcripts and is responsible for registration management activities is a part of Academic Affairs. TROY Global Campus which delivers academic programs throughout the country and around the world is also a part of Academic Affairs as is our eCampus, which coordinates all of Troy University’s online learning offerings.
This past December, Troy University was approved to offer its first doctoral program, a Doctorate of Nurse Practitioner degree in recognition of the University’s continued academic excellence. Our faculty are award-winning teachers who are actively engaged in their classrooms and dedicated to student learning and student success. These faculty are also nationally and internationally recognized for their scholarship as researchers and grant writers. Our students in a number of academic areas annually are recognized for their achievements, including award-winning work at the state, regional, and national levels of competition.
Troy University is home to over 600 international students, two international dual degree programs (Russia and China) and partnerships with universities across Europe and Asia. Our students and faculty regularly travel and study abroad to such places as London, Paris, Prague, the Philippines, Egypt, China, Honduras, Turkey and Sweden.
I’m proud of how well Troy University prepares our students for their future success. Our alumni include astronauts, generals, broadcasters, artists, business leaders, educators, and professional athletes. Each student is important to us and we’re proud to reflect our Chancellor’s belief that at Troy University, we know each student by name and not by number. Troy University is indeed tomorrow’s university today, reflecting the evolving and dynamic global changes of the 21st century while remaining firmly rooted in the traditions of academic quality and excellence in higher education.
If I can provide any assistance about our Division of Academic Affairs, please let me know.
Dr. Ed Roach
Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost
