MONTGOMERY — Local residents can tour Troy University's Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts and get a discount on tickets to upcoming shows during an open house at the historic downtown venue on Saturday, Aug. 10.
The open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and admission is free and open to the public. Guests will be able to tour the historic theatre, get a preview of the 2013-2014 performance season, and receive a coupon for 20-percent off tickets to an upcoming show.
The event will also feature refreshments, door prizes and a remote broadcast and music from Mix 103.
Located at 251 Montgomery Street, the downtown landmark is one of only a few historic theater venues still in operation. It first opened in 1930 as the Paramount Theatre, a “movie palace" and home for Vaudeville shows. The theatre closed in 1976, but was purchased and restored by Troy University and reopened in 1983 as the Davis Theatre.
For more information on the theatre or the upcoming season, visit www.troy.edu/davistheatre, or call the theatre office at (334) 241-9567. Office hours are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, 8 a.m. to noon.
The 2013-2014 season at the Davis Theater will open Tuesday, Sept. 10, with a concert from classic crooner Englebert Humperdinck.
Door prizes were provided by the W.A. Gayle Planetarium, the Montgomery Zoo, Hampton Inn & Suites--Downtown Montgomery, Chris' Hotdogs, Touch of Class Limousine and Transport, the Rosa Parks Museum, Wintzell's, the Irish Bread Pub, 50/50, the Troy University Alumni Association, Railyard Brewing Company and CiCi's Pizza.
