TROY – U.S. News and World Report has named Troy University one of the best for veterans to attend in its "Best Online Programs for Veterans."

The rankings, now in their second year, were designed to help veterans identify high-quality online degree programs that suit their educational needs.

TROY was ranked in the overall Top 20 for Best Colleges for Veterans in the region, and its online bachelor's programs were ranked at 27 overall. The University made the list in the 13th spot for Best Online Graduate Nursing Programs for Veterans; at 16 for its online education programs; and was ranked 32 on the Best Online Graduate Business Programs for Veterans.

"We are always proud to receive recognition for the quality of our academic programs by national news organizations and that our online programs are meeting the needs of our nation's veterans," said Dr. Lance Tatum, vice chancellor for Global Campus, the arm of the University that oversees its online and outside-of-Alabama operations.

"We work hard each day to ensure that all of our students – veteran, active duty and reserve military personnel as well as civilian – receive a quality education at an affordable price. Such recognition validates that mission is being accomplished," Tatum said.

To be ranked, an online degree program had to report participation in four key programs that offer educational benefits to people with military service: certified GI Bill institutions, Yellow Ribbon Program participants or be public institutions that charge in-state tuition for all out-of-state veterans, be a member of Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges Consortium, and offer at least one course in the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) catalog. The schools must also have been awarded a numerical rank in the overall 2014 U.S. News Best Online Programs rankings, released earlier this year.

Additionally, TROY provides support to military affiliated students through its Troy for Troops Center. Facilitating veterans' needs across the academic spectrum, the Troy for Troops Center brings focus to support military students' academic and career success. Online military students studying through eTroy are also afforded support by a virtual Troy for Troops Center in their Blackboard academic environment.
