Center for Water Resource Economics

River

The Center for Water Resource Economics is a comprehensive, applied research center providing a one-stop research center for measuring the economic, environmental and social impacts of water resource policy and economics. This Center of Excellence will encourage wise management of water resources and promote economic development. It will focus on the significant economic potential of the considerable water resources of the region while continuing to provide for environmental conservation.

Our river systems are responsible for thousands of jobs and hold great potential for future economic development prospects through the competitive advantages offered by our region’s water systems. A recent study by the US Environmental Protection Agency titled "The Importance of Water to the U.S. Economy" underlines the importance of water for our regions and for our country. TROY is the only public university in Alabama to have made significant efforts to support the study and analysis of water resource issues from the economic policy perspective. Our research efforts in this area date back nearly 20 years.

Troy University’s Center for Water Resource Economics (CWRE) is dedicated to the use of economic tools in addressing water resource issues and to the archiving of important water resource information. Shared water issues have been ongoing for more than two decades but have never been gathered at a single location. With the Archive, the CWRE intends to provide useful water resource information from the region in a digitized, readily available format for use in investigations and research.
