Guide to the SACS Self Study Committee Records

Date Span:  1979-2000

Organizational History:  As part of its accrediting process, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) requires an applicant school to conduct a decennial self-study.  Troy State University Dothan unsuccessfully applied for accreditation in 1978; it achieved accreditation in 1985.  SACS reviews first accreditations in five years, so TSUD complied in 1990, then stood for decennial reaccreditation in 2000.  All of these initiatives involved a department-level self study, then a site visit from SACS, then reports of compliance if any shortcomings appeared.

Scope/Content:  Various proposals, reports, recommendations, responses, and correspondence concerning SACS accreditation and reaffirmation of accreditation for Troy State University Dothan. 

Organization:  Organized into 2 Series:  1. Application Documents; 2. Supporting Documents. 

Provenance:  Original accession stored in Troy State University Dothan Library reserve department until its transfer to the The Wiregrass Archives in 2002.  Other accessions provided by the reaccreditation committee of 2000, the Office of TSUD Executive Vice President, and the Office of University Relations.
