Organizational Sketch: The Alabama Commission on Higher Education (ACHE) was formed as a result of the 1958 Alabama Education Commission which proposed to form "'an agency...for the study and research in the interest of the coordination and development of higher education should be established to collect information, review and analyze programs and costs, and to otherwise provide a reliable source of information and to make recommendations respecting all aspects of higher education.'"  This initial direction of the 1958 Commission reappeared as the 1968 Alabama Education Study Commission.   After the Legislature's passage of Act 14 in 1969, this Study Commission formed the Alabama Commission on Higher Education.  Especially since the mid 1970s, ACHE has assumed many responsibilities in the advancement and preservation of higher education in Alabama. Scope / Content: Includes ACHE meeting minutes used for reference of program authorizations for the Troy Dothan campus from June 1991 - July 2003, as well as various reports and planning statements, 1983-2001.
