Biographical Sketch Thomas W. Solomon, May 27, 1915--May 13, 1988, was a resident of Headland, AL, and
according to his Dothan Eagle obituary of May 14, 1988, a "well known railroad artist
and train enthusiast." Solomon served as a draftsman with the Atlantic Coast Line
then with the Florida East Coast Railroad. He was a member of the Headland United
Methodist Church.
Scope/Content Consists of Solomon's photographic negatives, transparent positives, and prints
of railroading in the Southeastern US, particularly the Wiregrass. Many shots are
copy negatives or photographs of Solomon's paintings of railroad scenes. Others are
on-site shots of trains, yards, tracks, and other facilities. The photos cover the
Alabama Midland Railway, Amtrak, Apalachicola and St. Andrew's Bay Railway, Apalachicola
Northern, Atlantic Coast Line, Bay Line, Central of Georgia, L&N, Plant System, Seaboard
Atlantic Line, Southern Railway, and others.

Provenance Tom Solomon photographs given to Dothan Landmarks Foundation, Inc.,(DLF) as part of
its historical collecting mandate. DLF transferred the photographs to The Wiregrass
Archives in 2005.
Processing Notes Scanned and assigned temporary numbers as part of Dothan Landmarks Foundation's authoring
of Railroading in Dothan and Vicinity (Charleston, SC: Arcadia Publishing, 2005).
Those images not scanned for that project were scanned in March 2009. The Wiregrass
Archives file numbers (based on Acc + box/item + file; in this case 146-05-0725-ITM-xxx)

from a typical “paint-bucket overhauling,’ she sits in the old shop area about the

was built for the Savannah, Florida, and Western as their 82 in August 1890 by Rhode
Island. Her shop number was 2425. After becoming the ACL's 650 she remained so until
