Biographical Sketch: Willadean Hall (neé Martin) was born in 1943 in Abbeville, Alabama. She graduated in 1961 from Henry County Training School (African American High School in Henry County until the system was desegregated almost ten years later), and received her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 1965 from Alabama State University. She taught at Manatee Elementary School in Palmetto, Florida (1965-1967), Henry County Training School (1968- 1969), and Abbeville (Alabama) Middle School (1975-2001).
Hall received her master's degree in Elementary Education in 1980 from Troy State University, and taught as an adjunct instructor at Wallace Community College in the summers of 2002 and 2003. She is a member of professional and civic organizations as well as the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and attends St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church.
The images in this collection concern Hall's immediate and extended family, particularly her mother and father, grandmother and grandfather, and an aunt and uncle. Some of the images are of her as a child. Ms. Hall married Moses Hall in 1964 and they later divorced. Ms. Hall's daughter is Felecia Martin Goolsby. As of 2016, Ms. Hall resides in Abbeville, Alabama.
Ms. Hall supplied these family photographs to be scanned as part of the NEH-funded "Wiregrass Common Heritage Project" of the Wiregrass Archives and Troy University Dothan Campus History Department. The Project held two Community Scanning Days, June 18 and 25, 2016.
Scope / Content Note: Sixteen photographs of Ms. Hall as a child, her grandmother and grandfather, her mother and father, two photographs of graduating classes from Henry County (Alabama) Training School (1939 and 1961).
