Biographical Sketch: Dr. Edward N. Passmore was a dentist in Dothan, AL. Called the "dean of Dothan dentists" for his three-decade long career, he served as the president of the Southeast Alabama Dental Association and on the Board of Dental Examiners. He was born in 1870 and came to Dothan from Abbeville, Alabama. He died unexpectedly at his home in Dothan. Rev. Norman McLeod officiated at his funeral on December 16, 1942 and he lies buried in Montgomery.
Scope / Content: Approx. 160 poems written by Dr. Passmore from 1926-1931. Typescript on yellowing and deteriorating paper, 8.5 x 11" and hand written on smaller pieces of paper. Dr. Passmore used the back of correspondence, receipts, blank order forms, etc. for his handwritten poetry.
Provenance: Troy University Trustee and Mobile attorney Forrest Latta gave this to the Wiregrass Archives. It came to him from his mother who received it from her mother who somehow acquired it from Dr. Passmore or his relatives, possibly through an estate sale after his death in 1942.
