By now, you've seen first-hand how art transforms lives and culture. In fact, you
can probably think of at least one teacher who has helped you find and hone your artistic
voice. You can be that influence for someone else! Working together, TROY's Department
of Art and Design and College of Education will prepare you to teach and influence
promising young artists. At TROY, not only will you continue to build onto your artistic
skills, but you'll gain skills that will allow you to captivate imaginations, impart
knowledge and teach techniques to your future students.
The traditional program requires students to complete one semester of teaching internship.
This internship provides the student with necessary teaching experience through the
of a cooperating teacher. Students will learn real-life teaching experience through
a variety of teaching methods that incorporate the use of technology as well as the
use of hands-on laboratory experiences.
TROY's music education instrumental degree gives you the unique experience to be a
part of both the College of Education and the John M. Long School of Music found within
the University's College of Communication and Fine Arts. As a music education major
focusing on instrumental music, your courses will be taught by talented and passionate
musicians who are dedicated to helping their students become knowledgeable in the
areas of brass, woodwind, percussion and string instruments as well as vocal training.
As you work your way through the program, you will have the opportunity to try out
and perform with TROY's award-winning and nationally acclaimed Sound of the South
Marching Band. You can also try out for and perform within TROY's symphony band, concert
band, jazz ensemble and basketball pep band along with various other smaller ensembles.

At Troy University our physical education program is based on three beliefs. First,
teach students the proper skills necessary to participate in a variety of sport, individual
and lifetime activities. Second, provide opportunities for the student to learn and
participate in a wide variety of physical activities. Finally, by doing so, the student
will find success in something they enjoy and will continue to do throughout life
