Psi Chi

Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology, was founded in 1929. Psi Chi is the largest student psychological organization with more than three-quarters of a million members. Psi Chi represents the two Greek words “Psyche” [Psy-key] and “Cheires” [Ky-race]. “Psyche” suggests scholarship and enrichment of the mind and “Cheires” stands for fellowship and research. Purpose of Psi Chi
The mission of Psi Chi is to recognize and promote excellence in the science and application of psychology. The purpose of Psi Chi is to encourage, stimulate, and maintain excellence in scholarship of the individual members in all fields, particularly in psychology, and to advance the science of psychology.

Troy University Psi Chi Chapter Membership Requirements
The Troy University Psi Chi chapter is open to undergraduate psychology majors. Membership in the organization is based solely upon academic excellence. The membership requirements for our chapter are as follows:

  1. You must be a declared psychology major at Troy University.
  2. You must have completed 12 credit hours in psychology.
    • Credits hours must show as “completed” on your official Troy University Academic Evaluation in Trojan Web Express at the time of your application.
    • Credits hours must be either earned at Troy University or transfer credits accepted by Troy University as psychology course credits to qualify toward the credit hour requirement.
  3. 3.3 Overall GPA.
  4. 3.5 Psychology GPA (includes all PSY courses).

How to Apply
Complete steps 1-3 below to be apply for membership.

  1. Review your official Troy University Academic Evaluation in Trojan Web Express to determine if you meet the Troy University Psi Chi chapter requirements (listed above).

    Proceed with the application process only if you meet the requirements. If you do not yet meet the requirements, you may apply in the future if your academic credentials change so that you meet the membership criteria.

  2. Complete the online Psi Chi membership application.

    Please enter your Troy University email address in the application and be careful to enter the correct mailing address. The online application will ask you to confirm that you meet the minimum requirements for the Psi Chi organization (a minimum of 9 credits hours completed in psychology and a minimum 3.0 psychology GPA). The Troy University chapter requires 12 credit hours completed in psychology, a 3.3 overall GPA, and a 3.5 psychology GPA.

  3. Submit a payment of $75 via PayPal (link below). No other forms of payment will be accepted. You can pay at the “Buy Now” link below through your PayPal account or with a credit or debit card. If you need to pay with cash, you can do so via PayPal by following the instructions here. The $75 dues include one-time national Psi Chi dues of $55 and one-time Troy University chapter dues of $20.

Deadlines
The Troy University Psi Chi faculty advisor reviews membership applications twice per year (fall and spring). To be considered for membership, you must submit all application materials (online application and dues paid through PayPal):

  • By November 1st (or the first weekday after November 1st) for consideration during the fall application review period.
  • By March 1st (or the first weekday after March 1st) for consideration during the spring application review period.

Notification and Induction
The faculty advisor will review your Academic Evaluation in Trojan Web Express to determine your eligibility for becoming a member of the Troy University Psi Chi chapter. You will be notified within 2-4 weeks of the above deadlines if you have been accepted. Applicants who are accepted for membership will receive invitations in the spring to the Psi Chi induction ceremony and the Troy University Honors Convocation (both events typically held in April).

If a review of your application reveals that you do not qualify for membership, you will be notified via email that you do not qualify and your membership fee will be refunded to the payment source that you used to pay the membership fee. You may re-apply in the future if your academic credentials change so that you meet the membership criteria.
