Pi Mu Epsilon Honor Society
At TROY, we have a chapter of the National Mathematics Honor Society known as Pi Mu Epsilon. We are known as the Alabama Eta chapter, and we were chartered in 2004. We are one of only 7 universities in the state of Alabama that have such a chapter, and are very active in participation in regional and national mathematics student conferences (such as MAA MathFest). In fact, we were one of 6 chapter finalists for the Poiani Infiinity Award "that promote scholarship in mathematics through extraordinary creative programs integrated with the encouragement of student participation in local and national opportunities to advance their knowledge and communication of mathematics."
To become a member is one of the highest honors a mathematics student can receive, as it is based primarily upon your academic performance in mathematics courses. Therefore, it really stands out on a resume to graduate school committees and employers. Moreover, several of our members have taken advantage of the opportunities to have paid travel expenses to the MAA MathFest for Pi Mu Epsilon and the Mathematical Association of America. This is a great learning and networking opportunity for students to meet other students across the U.S. as well as other mathematics faculty.
